It’s likely you’ve heard that prayer has the power to heal. Perhaps you’ve even experienced the power of prayer on your health or that of a loved one. But did you know praying over your food increases the health properties of your meal?

It has been proven scientifically that prayer changes frequencies, and food is a frequency.

Expressing gratitude, giving thanks, and blessing food is an ancient energy technique.

Prayer and gratitude may be the most important and profound energy techniques of all when it comes to intentional eating.

Gratitude shows you that the grass beneath your feet is greener than you think.
– Dr. Robert Holden

Our Ancestors Understood the Power of Prayer

Ancient peoples danced together in celebration when preparing food, blessed the cooking pots and the cooks, and kissed the plates the food was served on. This actually sounds like my house when we get together, right down to loving our dishes.

When you bless your food, it promotes mindfulness: calmly focusing on the present moment; drawing your attention to taste, texture, and flavor; and bringing forth more satisfaction and enjoyment. It brings a peaceful, happy feeling to the table, enhancing readiness for eating as well as creating a communing experience with your meal.

I read a story of a woman who sat down at her table to eat a Twinkie and drink a glass of milk. She usually prayed over her food but as she looked at the Twinkie she said to herself, “Well, this isn’t very nutritious.” Immediately the thought popped into her mind, “It could be!” She stopped and offered a quick prayer.

Water Picks Up Energy

If you’re familiar with the movie, What the Bleep Do We Know? you are familiar with the work of Dr. Masaru Emoto.

Dr. Emoto believed that water could react to positive thoughts and words, and that polluted water could be cleaned through prayer and positive visualization. He published volumes of experimental work entitled Messages from Water.

Emoto introduced different vibrations into water. He froze the water and captured pictures of the frozen water crystals. Many of his photos were of beautiful water crystals after playing good music and offering gratitude and prayers to the water.

I did an experiment with my kids when they were young, at about the time the knowledge was circulating that plants respond to love and good music. We soaked a bunch of mung bean seeds in water, divided the seeds into two equal groups, and planted them in two paper cups.

On cup A we wrote “good” words like “I love you” and “Gratitude,” and the kids drew things like hearts and smiley faces.

On cup B we wrote “bad” words like “I hate you” and “You are bad,” and the kids drew frowny faces and garbage, and one of the boys drew the worst thing he could think of: a pile of dog poop. If you have boys, I know you totally understand this!

Each cup received the same water and sunlight. Every day we said loving words or did loving things to cup A, including blessing it; and said mean things and scorned cup B. The results were noticeable. The blessed cup-A seeds sprouted, grew quickly, and leafed out. Only about half the seeds in cup B sprouted, and the ones that did produced short, scrawny plants. Some mold showed up in the dirt.

This made an impact on my kids. In fact, some of my grandkids have used this experiment as science fair projects with very similar results.

Family Tradition

In our family we have passed along the tradition and habit of giving thanks for the food we eat. It is very special to see a two-year-old baby fold her arms and bow her head as she utters a few words in her baby language before she eats.

Give me good digestion, Lord,
And also something to digest;
but where and how that something comes
I leave to Thee, who knoweth best.
– Mary Webb

When you take a moment to express gratitude and bless your food before you eat it, the frequency of that food changes for the better. Your prayer can be a simple blessing of any kind
that you have learned. You don’t have to be Christian. You don’t have to be Buddhist. Give thanks in your own way.

30 Day Process

Try this for 30 days and see what happens. Chances are you will feel better, have more memorable meals and feel closer to your loved ones.
